LJ Ross: A Champion of Stories, Community, and the North East
A big thank you to one of our headlining authors
Without Louise Ross, Alnwick Story Fest wouldnโt existโat least not in the way it does today. She backed it from the very beginning, believing in its mission to bring stories to life and celebrate the power of words.
Now, we couldnโt be prouder to have her as one of our festival headliners this year.
Through her internationally bestselling DCI Ryan series, she has transported millions of readers into the heart of Northumberland, blending gripping crime mysteries with evocative landscapes- with humour as well as intrigue. Over the past decade, sheโs sold more than 10 million books, launched her own publishing imprint, Dark Skies Publishing, and established herself as a leading voice in modern crime fiction.
Her latest novel, Belsay, promises yet another gripping case for DCI Ryan, set against the stunning backdrop of Belsay Hall, a spectacular country estate on the outskirts of Newcastle. This time, Ryan and his team are looking forward to a well-earned Christmas breakโuntil their celebrations are interrupted by the discovery of a body within the estateโs ancient walls. As always, Louise Ross weaves together murder, mystery, and Northumberlandโs rich history, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
But Louise Ross isnโt just about booksโsheโs about giving back. A keen philanthropist, she has founded various non-profit initiatives and prizes designed to support the arts, literacy, and local enterprise. โThe North East is so close to my heart,โ she explains. โItโs where I grew up, and Iโm always working to shine a light on the talent thatโs already on our doorstep. I was fortunate to have been given opportunities and encouraged in my dreams, but not everybody has that. I want to help create those opportunities where I can.
Through Dark Skies Publishing and her prize initiatives, sheโs committed to nurturing storytellers, particularly those whose work celebrates the North East. โThereโs so much talent here,โ she says. โWith arts funding constantly at risk, I want to pay forward some of the good fortune Iโve had and lift others up.โ
Alnwick Story Fest is about celebrating the magic of storiesโand Louise Ross embodies that magic. Her passion, generosity, and belief in the power of words have shaped this festival and inspired countless writers to follow their dreams.
We canโt wait to welcome her to the stage and hear the story behind her phenomenal successโand, of course, get a sneak peek at Belsay!
